Work/Description
Abstract/
Create a wine storage drawer system that improves the presentation of the wine to the user, while maintaining temperature control and maximizing capacity.
Challenge/
Drawer refrigerators require a unique solution to achieve visibility to the entire drawer's contents. In particular, wine collectors require visibility to the labels on their bottles. Although drawer refrigerators offer improved visibility and ergonomics over hinged doors, they also create a need to provide easy access to all bottles, including the ones at the bottom of the drawer.
Solution/
A mutiple tier drawer system creates a cascade effect when either drawer is pulled open, presenting the wine bottles to the user, providing an unobstructed view of the labels, and providing full access to all bottles. A side access wine caddy can be removed and transported to a table or counter. A TouchSensor digital display allows the user to control the temperature by lightly touching the glass drawer front, eliminating the need to open the refrigerator and let in warm air.
Results/
U-Line introduced the first-ever Wine Storage Drawers at the 2004 Kitchen and Bath Show, giving wine collectors a more pleasing experience and better control. U-Line is the first undercounter appliance manufacturer to use TouchSensor technology, and this product is the first appliance ever to utilize TouchSensor on a thermal pane application.
