Title
Director of Human Factors + Principal
Present
Designing products to meet the needs, capabilities and limitations of users. Finding pragmatic ways of getting the data needed to make sound decisions.
Past
I started my career in R&D at Fiskars and worked at another design firm before joining Design Concepts in 2004. I hold degrees from both Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and focused on user-centered design through a background in ergonomics, design engineering and fine arts.
Passion
If a picture’s worth a thousand words, then a model must be worth millions. Few things are more fun than sculpting form study models in the shop.
Play
I have always used my freakish height as an athletic advantage. In college I fenced epee. Now my weapon of choice is a badminton racket.
What is your first memory of design thinking?
When I was in 4th or 5th grade, I really wanted to invent something that was patentable. I was working on this scheme for pouring wine without removing the cork in the bottle.
