In the middle of it all. ///

If you've ever been to Madison, you know that it sits comfortably between the East Coast and the West Cost. Literally as well as figuratively.

Madison's population is just over 200,000. It usually feels a lot smaller. State capital, Big Ten campus, and home to some of the nation's top independent research facilities — when you realize all it has to offer, it seems much bigger.

All in all, we think Madison's pretty conducive to creativity. We're not alone. In his book The Rise of the Creative Class, Richard Florida ranks Madison number one in the small cities category of his "Creativity Index." Describing Madison's Creative Class, he wrote, "Most of all, they are innovators. They are people who push themselves and others to new heights, not by excess but by example. They thrive on living and working in places where they are challenged to grow, and feel free to be themselves."
