Schutt DNA Football Helmet

Schutt Sports asked Design Concepts to take their protective gear to the next level and change the game of football by improving the performance of protective gear for youth, high school, college and pro athletes in ways that matter players, player’s families, athletic departments and the manufacturer.

Design Concepts designed a unique shell geometry. The spherical shape results in glancing blows. The shape and positioning of ventilation holes relative to padding moves air, keeping players cool. The broad ear hole permits better positioning at the player's ear and less obstruction to hearing compared to most helmets, and makes it easier to pull on and off. A wider eye area increases peripheral vision. The shell thickness is calibrated to balance the needs for lightness and impact resistance. Unmistakable visual elements differentiate the product and enhance brand recognition.

For the player, it’s more comfortable with a dynamic new look. For parents, it provides better protection by addressing new research findings in mild traumatic brain injuries (concussions), not just catastrophic injury. For athletic departments, the new helmet is easier to fit and maintain. For the manufacturer, the helmet is easily identifiable on the field and provides outstanding brand recognition. Schutt DNA helmet was selected as a SGMA Sports Product of the Year 2004 Finalist.
