Univ. of Illinois Endotracheal Tube
Dr. Girish G. Deshpande, MD, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine, chose Design Concepts to construct a demonstration model of his concept for a new endotracheal tube.
The weight of attached devices on existing endotrachael tubes can cause unwanted movement, bending or kinking that restricts air flow. The new device addresses those challenges by easily securing to the patient, allowing in-line suction and ensuring uninterrupted air flow from a ventilator. The new device features a rotating cuff that attaches to an endotracheal tube. The anatomically designed cuff rests inline with the patient’s mouth. Two ports, to attach a ventilator or suction line, disperse weight and avoid interrupting air flow.
