Trek Bontrager Oracle Helmet
Trek, a world-renowned leader in the cycling industry, turned to Design Concepts to design the adjustable fit system for their first entry into the high-end helmet category with the Bontrager Pro Tour Oracle Helmet. The Oracle is designed to be worn by both competitive riders, including the professional cyclists of the Trek team, as well as dedicated weekend athletes. Bontrager challenged designers to define an extremely high quality, light weight system, with a compelling aesthetic that matched Trek's aeodynamic, sleek helmet design.
The design team considered a wide range of options and ultimately selected a wrap spring clutch mechanism. The highly intuitive, easy to adjust system provides an audible click for the rider to know when it's engaged. Anodized aluminum parts ensured the system is light weight, especially important to world-class competitive riders. Testing with multiple prototypes made certain the system could resist torque, even when wet, and withstand tension. Eliminating cables and other parts made it possible to reduce the number of parts and the cost to manufacture.
The solution met Trek's high standards and supported the modern, sophisticated aesthetic of the Oracle. The cycling industry is taking notice. Unveiled in March, 2011, Bontrager Oracle is the team helmet for the elite riders of the RadioShack Nissan Trek team of 30 professional riders competing in world-class races including the Tour de France.
