On October 22, 2009, The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum presented the 2009 People’s Design Award to the Trek Lime bicycle. The award was presented at the 10th annual National Design Awards ceremony in New York. The award was accepted by Hans Eckholm, Trek senior industrial designer.

Design Concepts strategy & research team is pleased to have worked with Trek to uncover valuable information about potential riders and customers. Research findings were fully integrated into the development process and directed the design of the bike. Trek staff were trained to conduct ongoing research and establish a datbase of information about non-expert riders available for future Trek product design efforts.
