Dave and Lindsey Gennrich In Africa
Dave Gennrich and his wife Lindsey recently returned from a 9-week trip to Africa. Lindsey and Dave volunteered for four different groups as they traveled through Kenya, South Africa and Namibia.

Together with 15 other individuals from the church, Lindsey and Dave volunteered for Beacon of Hope in Nairobi. The team helped run two medical camps – one in the streets of Ongata Rongai and another in the remote Masai village of Bissil.

From Bissil, the Gennrich’s volunteers with Overcomers which provides basic skills education and rehabilitation services for disabled people.

While in Africa, they visited Kick Start, an engineering firm that focuses on sustainable options to pulling people out of poverty, including foot powered water pumps to irrigate small gardens.

In Cape Town South Africa, Dave and Lindsey volunteered with the AIDS/HIV support organization Living Hope. Dave helped joined the maintenance team by installing doors and exit signs, and Lindsey volunteered as a kindergarten teacher for a local school.

Other highlights of their trip include sailing on a traditional Swahili dhow on the island of Lamu and walking through carpets of wildflowers on the coast of South Africa.

The experience that had the greatest impact on Dave and Lindsey was seeing the true joy in the people they met in the some of the most challenging and impoverished areas of Nairobi and Cape Town.
