Moving on up to the East Wash …

After 15 years of calling 5301 Buttonwood Drive our Madison home, Design Concepts will be moving to a new space in the spring of 2017.

We will be relocating to a new mixed-use development that will be built at 1000 East Washington Avenue. The building will feature retail on its first floor, commercial property on the second and third floors, and 130 apartments in its tower. It will be located adjacent to Breese Stevens Athletic Field, a city-owned soccer facility that is also home to concerts and other city events.

“Our current location has served us well” said President Dave Franchino. “But it required updates that would be excessively expensive and also create a huge business disruption. By occupying new space on East Washington, we will be able of create a better, more dynamic and design-centric experience for clients and staff. We’re excited to be part of the rejuvenation of the East Washington corridor, which will enable us to participate more actively in the vibrant downtown Madison community.”

The decision is the result of several months of research with Epstein Uhen Architects regarding our current space needs, an analysis of our current space, and commercial property search. Rainer Schnabel, director of new business development, led the process.

Formal zoning approval and demolition of Madison Dairy, the current structure at 1000 E. Washington Ave., will occur in January 2016. The developers, Stone House Development, Inc., anticipate a 14-month construction process.

Design Concepts will begin its interior build-out of the space in February 2017 working with Epstein Uhen to create a space that addresses the needs uncovered during our research. The prototype shop will occupy a 5,000-square-foot space on the first floor and the remainder of space will be located on either the second or third floor of the building. At present, we anticipate using roughly the same amount of space as our Buttonwood office, but have the option to add more space if needed.
