Business Development Account Executive

Sixty-five multidisciplinary professionals in our Madison and San Francisco offices help clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups, grow their businesses by envisioning new opportunities and then realizing those opportunities as exciting new products and services.

We are seeking an experienced business development leader for our Madison office to develop and grow client relationships. This is a phenomenal opportunity for a highly motivated individual who excels at executing on growth goals by identifying, qualifying and developing the right opportunities.

In this role, your will take charge of the entire sales process and work closely with our leadership team on the following tasks:

  • Lead Generation and Qualification: You will proactively research, identify and qualify new leads. You will drive communications with potential clients to communicate Design Concepts’ process and capabilities. You will be responsible for helping to craft a strategic outlook and ongoing prospect list for targeted conversations and opportunities for engagement.
  • Communication: You will be responsible for improving and maintaining visibility and transparency in our pipeline and business development process. This involves ensuring regular updates on in-process and emerging leads and clarity around accountability for moving the process forward.
  • Opportunity Framing: You will contribute to and assist in generating compelling presentations, meetings and proposals.
  • You will also be expected to be an active participant in developing new methods for engaging collaboratively with clients in an entrepreneurial way. We expect you to not only understand and communicate Design Concepts’ value proposition, but to also look for novel opportunities in order to advance our thinking.
  • Business Development Team Strategy: In collaboration with leadership and the rest of the project team leaders, you will build and maintain momentum around and oversee execution of a plan that supports the broader strategic goals of the team. Forecasting and developing roadmaps is key.
  • Lead Conversations to the Negotiations and Business Closure Phase: Collaborate with Business Development Team and Disciplines to develop appropriate project scope, pricing, and timing during the business development process according to the client’s needs and Design Concepts’ capabilities. Develop and coordinate negotiations and closure working with the Business Development Director.
  • Design and maintain connections across our business communities: You will be responsible for regularly and creatively engaging key stakeholders in our pipeline and decision making processes.
  • Communication: You will be responsible for improving and maintaining visibility and transparency in our pipeline and business development process. This involves ensuring regular updates on in-process and emerging leads and clarity around accountability for moving the process forward.
  • Network development:  Working with our Leadership team, you will identify industry forums (conferences, media, meetings, professional affiliations, etc.) to showcase Design Concepts and create meaningful connections to potential clients and to reinforce existing client relationships.

During the sales process, you will have the support of subject matter experts to structure the details of more complex proposals. If you are comfortable engaging with clients at an executive level, listen intently, have good judgment and effectively communicate logically derived opinions, then we are looking for you.

The ideal candidate will meet most of the criteria listed below.

  • 1-5 years of experience in a business development or business-minded consulting role, involving substantially sized client engagements.
  • Strong professional selling and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Track record of developing a new sales territory
  • Technical acumen and direct experience in multidisciplinary consulting services.
  • Outstanding communications skills both oral and written
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interface with peers as well as executive level management.
