DESIGN CONCEPTS AND WILSON SPORTING GOODS SERVE UP A WINNER
nCode racket wins 2005 IDEA award
Madison, WI (June 24,2005) - Design Concepts, Inc., a leading source for innovation in product design, and Wilson Sporting Goods today have been recognized with a Bronze 2005 Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for Wilson's newest tennis rackets. Co-sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek, the prestigious international design competition is "a celebration of the best and hottest product designs of the year." and is "dedicated to fostering business and the public's understanding of the importance of industrial design excellence to the quality of life and the economy". This year's competition is featured in BusinessWeek's July 4th issue, with expanded coverage at www.businessweek.com. A jury of 17 world-renowned designers and critics considered over 1,380 entries from 40 countries before selecting just 148 winners. Juror Larry Keeley, IDSA, President of Doblin Inc. remarked, "The real story of the 2005 IDEA competition is simple: We've moved beyond mere great design... Making something better isn't enough. Now you have to make it different and demonstrably superior." Wilson's newest tennis rackets are proof-positive of this trend. Featuring exclusive nano- technology nCode material combined with dramatic visual appeal, the rackets deliver superior shock and vibration reduction, more power, a more active string bed and a larger sweet spot. The new design is so convincing that Serena Williams relies on the n3 model for pro tour victories like the 2005 Australian Open and Tennis magazine has named the n5 model an "Editor's Choice". According to Brian Dillman, Wilson's VP of Global Marketing for Racket Sports, "The new nCode rackets make all other rackets look obsolete. But in the end, the rackets have to perform on the court - players can try these new rackets at tennis pro shops and tennis specialty stores to see and feel the benefits first hand." Created by a talented team of industrial design, engineering, graphic design and marketing specialists, the award-winning rackets have had an obvious impact to Wilson's bottom line. Bill Severa, Wilson's Director of Technology, Innovations and Design Group remarked "the combination of the visual impact and the underlying nano-technology has provided Wilson with an all-time sales winner". Great product design is rarely the work of a single artist, but rather a finely orchestrated team effort. DCI project manager Rick Smith added, "The innovations present in these rackets are simply amazing. They clearly illustrate the kind of ingenuity that is only possible with the right mix of people and skills." About Design Concepts, Inc.
